Dog House Buyer's Guide

Indoor Dog Houses

With the exception of the first house, the models shown here are marketed as indoor or outdoor dog houses. However, I would classify them all as indoor dog houses because they look too nice to be used outside and the roof systems don't seem like they're designed to shed water too well.

A couple of the models feature flat loft roofs which look quite attractive but aren't nearly as rain resistant as a peaked roof or slanted roof with shingles.

Cedar Indoor Pet House

This cedar indoor dog house is a bit out of the ordinary. The nice thing is that it can function as both a great end table and a pet house. Not only stylish, but also functional. It almost looks too nice to be a pet house! But, your dog deserves the best - right?

Made with fragrant cedar wood, this indoor dog house will fit seamlessly into any home decor, from a small apartment to a mansion. A small drawer is provided for storing grooming tools and other doggie accessories. It is made from solid cedar and is available in two finishes - either clear or cherry. It can accommodate small to large sized dogs.

Room With a View Dog House

Ahoy there you salty dogs! Look at me up here! That's what your dog will be thinking as he's sunning himself atop the Room With a View Dog House. Ideal for smaller dogs, this unique doghouse has steps along one side which lead to a spiffy roof-top balcony.

The design is reminiscent of a child's loft bed or playhouse. Speaking of which, the kids might even want one for just those purposes...

Other features of this dog house include: removable roof top and bottom panels for easy cleaning, a raised bottom to keeps pets dry, an oversized door with oval top, an attractive cedar stain finish, lattice work around the loft, and easy to follow instructions. Available in small size only.

Bed & Breakfast Dog House

The Bed & Breakfast 2-piece dog house provides a luxurious abode for the indoor pet -- and is a darn nice piece of furniture to boot. It's classical style with a rich dark cedar finish is perfect for homes with a semi-formal decor. A spacious lounging area on the side of the house provides a convenient place for your dog to enjoy a little sun or indulge in a midday nap.

Other features of this indoor dog house include an oversized entrance, turned wooden ball caps on all corners, and attractive spindles surrounding the raised bed area. The roof top and bottom panels are both removable for easy cleaning and maintenance. It is made for medium-sized dogs.

This house has a slightly larger footprint than some of the others feature here. A dog that really likes her privacy may find the oversized entrance a tad too open.

Pet Palace

It's a loft bed, it's a playhouse, it's a conversation piece, it's a piece of furniture... The Pet Palace is all of the above plus a dog house. The signature feature of this solid fir house with a dark cedar patina is a beautiful lattice roof top balcony to allow your pooch a resting place as well as a "look out" loft (to keep an eye on the rest of the family).

The Pet Palace features a removable roof, a raised panel floor, a three-step ladder to gain access to the balcony, and a denim pillow with buckwheat filling. Assembly is a breeze. All hardware and instructions are  included. It is designed for small to medium-sized dogs.

This is my personal favorite of the indoor style dog houses. The contrasting light and dark brown stain makes for a nice visual effect and the denim mattress looks down right comfy.
